Mrs Alice’s Couture Wedding Dress
Alice Naylor-Leyland’s wedding dress was a Phillipa Lepley design, selected for her Spring wedding in March 2011. The wedding dress, made start to finish at the designer’s Chelsea atelier, was a classic gown with intricate thoughtful details, perfectly suited to her very English, beautifully styled celebration.
The couture wedding dress’s defining feature was that it was completely covered all over with fine French Chantilly and corded lace, moulded and appliquéd together sitting neatly over corseted silhouette beneath it. Phillipa designed it closely with Alice through a series of design consultations and then fittings.
Phillipa says, “Alice is the epitome of elegance. She has such a stand-out sense of style and an incredible eye. Designing her wedding dress was a joy. My whole team and I are all huge fans of everything she does – she has an incredible entrepreneurial spirit and such pizzaz. She made a lasting impression on us all.”
Alice chose a slim a line silk dress, cut to highlight her figure, with a lace overlay created with added volume and undulation at the hem to give romantic, feminine movement.
She chose to highlight the sleeve cuffs, neckline and hem and finished with a hand-embroidered scalloped corded lace edge, and a beautiful high neckline which accentuated her face drawing attention to her eyes.
Luxury Italian duchess satin ruched at the waist added further definition to the corseted centre-point.
A long, continuous line of silk covered buttons ran down the back of the dress, adding a pretty touch.
Alice’s wedding day look was finished with a two tier long silk tulle veil, edged all around with a deep scalloped border of French lace, cut to finish beyond the cathedral length train.
